What Is An Environmentally Friendly Plasticizer?
Environmentally friendly plasticizers are organic substances that increase plasticizers for plastics, improve the fluidity of resins during molding, and make products flexible. It is usually some high boiling, hard to volatilize viscous liquid or low melting point solid, and generally does not chemically react with plastics.
The environmentally friendly plasticizer must first have good compatibility with the resin. The better the compatibility, the better the plasticizing effect. Adding plasticizers can lower the glass transition temperature of plastics, making hard and rigid plastics soft and flexible. Generally, environmental plasticizers are also required to be colorless, non-toxic, odorless, light fast, heat resistant, cold resistant, low in volatility and migration, non-flammable and have good chemical stability, and are cheap and easy to obtain. In fact, there are only environmental plasticizers, and general general-purpose plasticizers cannot meet all the above requirements.
Environmental plasticizers are classified into main plasticizers according to their functions, namely solvent-based plasticizers; auxiliary plasticizers, namely non-solvent plasticizers; catalyst-based plasticizers; and phthalate esters according to their chemical structure types, fatty acid esters, phosphate esters, polyesters, epoxy esters, chlorine-containing compounds, etc. Commonly used plasticizers are dibutyl phthalate (DBP), dioctyl phthalate (DOP), epoxy soybean oil, tricresyl phosphate, triphenyl phosphate, dioctyl sebacate, Chlorinated paraffin etc. PVC is the main end user of these plasticizers. The main application areas of PVC with plasticizers are wires, cables, floor and wall veneers, building materials, automobiles and packaging materials. Environmentally friendly plasticizers have the largest amount of all plastic additives. China's total production capacity is about 1 million tons. The plasticizers are mainly phthalates with good comprehensive performance and excellent prices. The four major production and consumption countries and regions in the world, including the United States, Western Europe, Japan, and China, accounted for 70% to 90%.
The controversy over environmentally friendly plasticizers arises from cling film. PVC products produced using traditional plasticizers are unlikely to cause harm to the human body under the existing use regulations.
